A lot of the young cool kids nowadays "R really in2 earnestness" instead of "cynicalness."
They tell me that I'm "out of touch" with what's cool and that I should stop "H8ing" on relevant lifestyle brands like INSIGHT with LUKEY STEDMANDS and instead I should embrace RVCA and transcendental surfers like "AL KNOWST" who is the Future of Surfing.
Please help me "str8in" this out cause I'm a little confused:
What's the difference between RetroBros and SurfHIPsters? Can our future be our past? Is nothing as modern as riding a plank of wood?
I've been looking at lots of pictures of ALeX KNoWST to try to figure it out. I think I almost get it - I understand that he's cooler than me, because he is more authentic and relevant and doesn't have to work for a living.
But is he a SurfHipster or a RETRObro? They both ride the same boards... but wear different pants. Is there a difference?
OR is he a Surfhipster or a GAYbro? Not that there would be anything wrong with AL being a GAYbro cause I saw MILK and I GET IT.

To me Knost seems like another trust fun kid pretending to be something he’s not. But it could be worse, where I live all the rich kids pretend to be hippies with dreadlocks, and they stink!
I would understand the whole hipster fashion thing better if the clothes actually fit and were comfortable. But why would you wear skin tight jeans and seek out ironic and retro clothes if not for vanity and becoming just another follower in a sad trend?

fashion-wise, he’s nothing too originial, but for those of you who’ve never seen him surf in person- he absolutely kills it.
Great Rant - I’ve a few mag articles and photos about this dude and i have one conclusion: WHO IS THIS GUY AND WHY SHOULD I CARE? Just because you wear tight pants, ride a longboard and wear a wetsuit from the 60’s that does not keep you warm and gives you a mega rash (wetsuit technology has advanced in the past 40 years) does not make this guy cool. Under the flag of improved/modern longboarding, these hipsters are stagnating in pre-teen cool-guy bull crap. Nothing new at all about these guys. But then again, how many surfers are doing anything new? But at least most people aren’t trying that hard and don’t look that stupid.

he’s nothing new and there’s nothing new in surf fashion. the trendy pendulum will swing (just like Alex does) and people will butch-up and stop wearing their little sister’s clothing. just give it time. just like in the 90’s (if you were alive) kids wore giant pants (which was even a worse trend) the trangender-capri-pants and super-deep-vee tees will also die…..
